Sarah Contos is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, collage and installation investigating themes of primitivism, exoticism and eroticism within the domestic and everyday. Her influences are drawn from cultural anthropology, fetishism ideologies, folk art and arts and craft methodologies from selected tribal communities. Contos has staged solo exhibitions Firstdraft, Mop Projects and Kings Ari and well as the Grantpirrie Window space. She is a past recipient of the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship for Sculpture and has participated in artist residency programs at the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Beijin, the Dogtroep in The Netherlands and at Artspace, Sydney. Sarah Contos lives and works between Sydney and Perth. Concurrent to her show at Gallery 9 she is also currently featured in Future Primitive curated by Linda Michael at Heide.
