Peter Alwast
View stockroom & exhibitionsPeter Alwast’s conceptual practice employs a range of media including video, computer graphics, painting and drawing. His video works and drawings fold different modes and layers of representation and invoke questions about institutions: public space, private space, the spectator, new media and painting. The varying approaches to media probe the way space (both real and virtual) constructs ideas about subjectivity and memory.
Since completing his Masters in Fine Art from the Parsons School of Design in New York in 2001, Peter Alwast has exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2008 he was the inaugural recipient of The Premier of Queensland New Media Art Award, hosted by The Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia.
In 2011, Alwast’s drawing, Trees, Waterfall Back, won the Jacaranda Aquisitive Drawing Award at Grafton Regional Gallery and he had an artist studio residency at Artspace, Sydney.
